Alternative EnergyCanada is one of the top ten users of energy globally. As of 2005 records show that we used 540,200,000 megawatt hours per year, If we can find away to offset this power with alternative energy solutions it would help bring us to a more environmentally sustainable nation.Solar PowerSunlight is used to create electricity through photovoltaics or concentrating solar power. Photovoltaics is the use of solar cells (photovoltaic cells) to convert solar rays to usable electricity as seen in calculators and solar panels on residential roofs. Consentrating solar power is the use the thermal energy of the sun to heat water that is then converted into energy. In Sarnia, Ontario, Embridge baught Sarnia's PV solar project from First Solar, and invested 300 million to build Canada's largest photovoltaic power plant, currently running at a 20 megawatt capacity, it is under going expansion to increase its production to 80 megawatts. Wind PowerWind turbines are becoming a more popular solution for augmenting the strain on our power system. Canada’s installed wind energy capacity was 944 MW in April 2006, which is enough to power more than a quarter million homes, this is expected to double over the next five years. If you would like to see Ontario residents get onboard with more windpower
generation please sign the petition at www.petitiononline.com/gbes1/ Bio EnergyBioenergy is the convertion of organic material into energy. An example includes using wood pellets (from manufactures waste wood) and vegitable oils instead of using fossil fuels to power are energy needs. Another use is by capturing gases from landfills and using them as fuel for bio mass energy. Biomass is classified as green power (lower emissions in comparison to fossil fuel) and is created from renewable resources. But with some new breakthroughs in science the ability to fracture water using low electrical current may be a feasible way to tap water for energy as well. Zero Point EnergyAlthough zero point energy is still in the research and development stages. I believe there is much hope for this idea and foresee this as becoming the source of power for the future. For more information on this research please visit www.zpenergy.com |
